Catchment Approach

The initiative is lead by River Don Trust. Our objective is to work with local communities to enhance the biodiversity and improve flood prevention.

Our Impact

Measurable Progress, Lasting Change

Through our ongoing conservation projects, we’re seeing real improvements to water quality, bird, wildlife and insect habitat are achievable at low cost and with minimal impact on land use. Tree planting, riparian borders and large woody structures help the river to heal itself, reduce pollution and run off, help flood prevention, improve conditions for everything from river bugs to salmon and trout spawning.

Together, we are committed to creating a healthier, more vibrant River Don for generations to come.

Our team

Leaders, Experts &  Community Engagement

The River Don Initiative is led by a passionate team of environmentalists, community leaders, and volunteers dedicated to protecting and restoring the river’s ecosystem. Our project leaders work closely with local communities, farmers, and partners to implement sustainable practices, including habitat restoration and rewilding. Conservation experts focus on improving biodiversity, while community coordinators engage stakeholders to promote collaborative efforts. Our volunteers play a vital role in river clean-ups and educational outreach, and we partner with environmental organisations and local authorities to ensure lasting positive impact on the River Don.

Together, we are committed to creating a healthier, more vibrant River Don for generations to come.
