Project Outline
- To manage deer populations to protect young trees, restore natural habitats, and promote ecological balance.
- Location: River Don, and Mossat Burn
- Est Start Date: June 2025
The Goal
The primary goal of the deer control is to maintain deer populations at sustainable levels, preventing overgrazing and damage to new woodland areas. To achieve this, a variety of methods will be used, including controlled stalking, the installation of deer fencing around vulnerable sapling areas, and the use of natural repellents to discourage deer from grazing. By combining these techniques, the project aims to protect young trees planted for habitat restoration, support biodiversity, and ensure that the natural ecosystem can flourish. Balancing the deer population with the needs of the environment will also help conserve other wildlife species that depend on healthy woodland habitats.
How Deer Control Helps
Deer control is vital to the regeneration of woodland areas, ensuring that tree planting and habitat restoration efforts are not compromised by overgrazing. By reducing pressure on young trees, the estate will see improved growth rates, which in turn will lead to more robust and diverse woodland ecosystems. This will provide shelter and food for a wide variety of species, from birds to insects, while contributing to long-term climate resilience. Additionally, sustainable deer management will enhance the estate’s landscape and support future conservation efforts.
Follow Kildrummy & Glenkindie Estates
Glenkindie and Kildrummy Estates offer one of the most exciting wildlife conservation projects in Scotland, UK, and indeed in Europe. If we let nature take back control, with sympathetic encouragement, we will provide a blueprint for landscape scale recovery across the globe. It is inspirational and it fills us with hope.
