Riparian Planting

Creating Shelter and Habitats for both in and out the river

The Goal

Scottish Forestry has designated the river Don and Mossat burn in Ardhuncart for urgent riparian tree planting. Starting in 2024, native wetland-compatible species like willow and alder will be planted to improve fish habitat, reduce flooding, prevent erosion, and enhance biodiversity. A 20-meter riparian border along the Don will limit runoff and erosion with minimal land loss (2%).

How Riparian Planting Helps

Riparian planting stabilizes soil, improves water quality, and boosts ecosystem health by preventing erosion, filtering pollutants, and supporting biodiversity. It also strengthens watersheds against flooding and climate impacts.
