Creating Large Woody Structures

alford

Transforming the local ecosystem by creating natural habitats. This innovative project aims to restore the river’s natural processes, improve biodiversity, and enhance climate resilience through the strategic placement of large wood structures. Learn more about how these efforts will help revitalize aquatic life and protect the surrounding environment.

Reconnecting Flood Plains

Jock Reids

Sacrificing a few acres of land which has been traditionally cropped for barley to allow the river to do its thing. The land can still be grazed when not wet. Will allow pressure to be taken off the river downstream.

Deer Control

Kildrummy & Glenkindie
A Deer Control Program safeguarding woodland habitats by maintaining sustainable deer populations. Through a mix of controlled hunting, fencing, and natural repellents, we’re protecting young trees and promoting biodiversity. Discover more about our efforts to restore and preserve natural ecosystem.

Electrofishing Survey

Kindie Burn & mossat Burn

An Electrofishing Program monitoring fish biodiversity and spawning in the Kindie and Mossat Burn. Using safe non-invasive techniques, we gather data to support conservation and restore the river’s ecosystem. Discover how we’re protecting aquatic life.

Sustainable Catch and Release Fishing

Aberdeen Angling Association

To further protect salmon populations, we are promoting responsible fishing practices, including catch and release. This method helps to preserve native fish species and maintain healthy aquatic ecosystems, ensuring that our river continues to support diverse wildlife.

River Restoration

River Don & Tributaries

In early 2022, the Scottish Government published a Wild Salmon Strategy, highlighting that “there is sadly now unequivocal evidence that populations of Atlantic salmon are at crisis point.”
